Samsung, the world’s corporate leader in memory chips, also produces some of the fastest solid-state drives, according to official company statistics. Last year Samsung released the first consumer-grade PCIe 4.0 SSD to market, making it uniquely designed as a solid-state drive. In recent days, Samsung has teased a new product which might be available as early as this month.
The South Korean manufacturer of backup storage solutions has been teasing a Durable External SSD (Rugged), but details are scarce. The #RuggedDurability hashtag is being used to tease the device, which may be related to the T7 rugged hard drive for enterprise use. It appears that this external version may have a USB Type-C port and perhaps even status indicators on its exterior.
Samsung’s T7 and T7 Touch SSDs are a formidable new product which has already proved to be quite resilient in its early days of production. It boasts an aluminium housing that can withstand shocks of up to 2 metres in height, and it maintains its operating temperature even in extreme environments. The latest SSD is predicted to have even more endurance than that with a MIL-STD 810G rating, indicating that this device may be designed for military operations.
